Curragh 3.03: Velozee Leaves the Favourite in His Wake on the Trends🏇⤵️👇

The Round Tower Stakes has produced a Level 5 signal on HorseRaceBase’s Big Race Trend Hunter—the highest category available.

In plain English, the historical patterns associated with this race appear unusually strong and relevant to today’s runners.

The market has made Great Barrier Reef an odds-on favourite, but the trends have a different leader. Not by a nose, either.

Velozee tops the table by a considerable margin.

Velozee is the unmistakable trend selection

Velozee matches an exceptional 44 meaningful trends and records an Overall Fit of 60.24.

Both figures are comfortably the best in the field.

Great Barrier Reef matches 38 trends and scores 48.47. That is an excellent profile in its own right, but Velozee leads him by six matched signals and almost 12 points on Overall Fit.

Horse| Approx. odds| Trends| Overall Fit
Velozee| 7/2| 44| 60.24
Great Barrier Reef| 4/5| 38| 48.47
Where Love Lives| 20/1| 16| 24.44
Livenka| 9/2| 14| 21.42
Push The Boat Out| 11/1| 12| 14.17
Rulers Control| 33/1| 5| 6.11

That does not prove Velozee is the better horse. The favourite may hold superior form, greater natural ability or stronger claims under today’s precise conditions.

What it does show is that the historical evidence supports Velozee more strongly than it supports a favourite trading at less than even money.

At around 7/2, that matters.

Great Barrier Reef is strong—but very short

It would be wrong to describe Great Barrier Reef as a negative trend horse.

Thirty-eight matches and an Overall Fit of 48.47 would make him a major historical contender in almost any field. His profile is miles ahead of four of today’s six runners.

The trends do not say the favourite is badly suited to the race. They say he is not the best-suited runner historically.

At 4/5, the price requires him to win more than half the time. To accept those odds, we need his conventional form and potential to outweigh Velozee’s significantly stronger trend profile.

He could easily be the most likely winner while still being the wrong bet. Those are two very different things.

Where Love Lives is the fascinating outsider

The surprise package is Where Love Lives.

She matches 16 trends and records an Overall Fit of 24.44, placing her third in the rankings. Significantly, that puts her ahead of Livenka despite a striking difference in price.

Livenka is approximately 9/2. Where Love Lives is around 20/1.

The latter’s Overall Fit is also noticeably higher:

- Where Love Lives — 24.44
- Livenka — 21.42

Nobody should conclude from that alone that Where Love Lives has a better chance than Livenka. The market may be accurately reflecting a substantial difference in demonstrated ability.

But at 20/1, Where Love Lives is the runner whose price looks most out of line with her historical profile. She warrants closer investigation, particularly if the form book supplies any supporting evidence.

With only six runners, however, standard each-way betting is unattractive. Any interest would be better considered in the win market or through suitable exchange and forecast strategies.

Livenka sits in the middle

Livenka matches 14 trends and scores 21.42. That is a respectable profile, although she is clearly separated from the leading pair.

At around 9/2, she is priced much closer to Velozee than the trend figures suggest she should be.

Velozee leads her by 30 matched signals and nearly 39 Overall Fit points, yet the difference between their market prices is fairly small.

That is another reason Velozee stands out. If a punter were choosing between those two exclusively through the trend lens, there would be no contest.

Livenka needs current form and potential to bridge a very substantial historical gap.

Push The Boat Out needs help from elsewhere

Push The Boat Out matches 12 trends and records an Overall Fit of 14.17.

That leaves him below the first four in the historical pecking order. His price of around 11/1 is bigger, but not dramatically so when compared with Where Love Lives at 20/1.

The trends do not entirely dismiss him, but they offer no compelling reason to believe the market has overlooked his chance. He will require a convincing case from the form, pace or likely improvement angles.

Rulers Control is firmly opposed

Rulers Control matches only five trends and scores 6.11, the weakest profile in the field by some distance.

At around 33/1, the market already recognises that he has plenty to find.

Young horses can improve suddenly and render previous patterns irrelevant, but he would need to win despite the historical evidence rather than because of it.

What are the trends really telling us?

This is not a race where the table merely confirms the betting.

The market says Great Barrier Reef is the clear standout. The Trend Hunter says Velozee is the most complete historical fit.

That produces a genuine analytical question:

Do we take odds-on about the horse with the strongest apparent form, or a much bigger price about the horse with the superior race profile?

On these figures alone, Velozee must be the answer.

Where Love Lives is the other runner who catches the eye, not because she is predicted to win, but because her third-ranked Overall Fit sits awkwardly beside a 20/1 price.

Trend verdict

Strongest historical fit: Velozee

Strong but potentially overbet: Great Barrier Reef

Big-price trend anomaly: Where Love Lives

Weakest historical fit: Rulers Control

Great Barrier Reef may well be the most likely winner. But at 4/5, knowing that another runner beats him comfortably on both trend measures is not a detail to brush aside.

Velozee is the clear trends play at 7/2, while Where Love Lives is the outsider who deserves a second look.
