Beverley staged a varied card on good-to-firm ground, with the juvenile novice producing the standout performance of the afternoon and the remainder of the programme largely made up of modest handicaps.
Race of the Day – Fast Track impresses
The opening EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes was comfortably the strongest race on the card. Fast Track made all and routed her three rivals by seven lengths, recording a time around 1.08 seconds faster than the HRB standard.
The small field tempers enthusiasm slightly, but the combination of authority, margin and clock support marks her down as a useful juvenile prospect. On private figures she achieved a rating of 92, comfortably the best performance of the meeting.
Pendella wins tactical Class 4 contest
The Malcolm Greenslade Memorial Handicap looked the deepest handicap beforehand, with an average official rating of 78. However, a four-runner field and a steadily run race reduced its value as a form race.
Pendella made all and narrowly held off Its Debatable, but the race was run 0.60 seconds slower than standard and the first two were difficult to separate on performance. The race earned a rating of 81, making it the strongest handicap on the card but not an especially strong Class 4.
Low-grade handicaps dominate
The three Class 6 handicaps produced exactly the sort of form expected from horses operating in the 45-60 rating band.
What A Tahoo won the Young Guns Handicap, but despite a respectable time the race itself remained modest, earning a race rating of 54.
The Beverley Annual Badgeholders Handicap over 1m2f was even less convincing. Run at a very slow overall pace and finishing in a compressed group, it looked a tactical affair rather than a genuine test. Kitsune Power gained the verdict, but the race was rated only 57 after taking the clock into account.
The Connexin Gigabit Gallop Handicap over 5f produced one of the better low-grade efforts of the afternoon. Crafty Spirit came from off the pace to win in a time 0.58 seconds faster than standard. The performance was solid for the grade, though the overall race depth remained ordinary, leading to a race rating of 52.
The Sweet Escape finishes strongly
The concluding 7½f Class 5 handicap was arguably the most informative handicap of the meeting.
Enjoy The Night set a strong pace and looked likely to take catching, but The Sweet Escape travelled strongly before finishing best to overhaul him close home. The race was run 0.34 seconds faster than standard and had a much more reliable shape than several earlier contests.
The Sweet Escape recorded a private rating of 68 and the race itself earned a figure of 66, making it the second-best handicap performance on the card behind Pendella.

Overall View
The card was headed by one genuinely notable performance from Fast Track, whose combination of dominance and time figure suggests she could prove useful. Beneath that, Pendella won the strongest handicap on paper, although the tactical nature of the race limited its value.
Most of the remaining handicaps were typical summer Beverley fare: competitive, tightly handicapped and modest in absolute terms. The Sweet Escape emerged as the best handicap winner on performance, while Enjoy The Night was arguably the horse to take from the race after forcing a strong pace and sticking on well.
In ratings terms, Fast Track was the clear headline act of the day.
